Selma C. D'Souza

Chair D’Souza has been an attorney for over 30 years. Prior to her appointment to the Human Rights Commission, she held various leadership roles across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Most recently, D’Souza served as the Chief of Staff at the Illinois Department on Aging and the Chief of Legislative Affairs at the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. She was also a longtime partner at the law firm of D’Souza & Gosrisirikul Ltd. and the Executive Director of the Indo-American Center in Chicago. For many years, D’Souza has been a dedicated activist and advocate for empowering minority communities through diversity in hiring and civic engagement. She’s a recipient of the Chicago Bar Association’s Vanguard award for her work to make the legal profession more representative of the community at large. She also co-chaired the Equity Advisory Council at the Illinois Department on Aging. D’Souza served on the Asian Advisory Council of the City of Chicago’s Human Relations Commission and the Asian American Bar Association’s Honorary Board. D’Souza earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Juris Doctor from UIC Law.
