Freedom of Information Act

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides public access to government documents and records.  As a public body, the Human Rights Commission is subject to FOIA.  

How do I submit a FOIA request?

What should I include in the FOIA request?

The written request should include your name, mailing address, email address, the date, and a telephone number to contact you with any questions. You also should include a clear description of the information being sought. 

When will I receive a response?

The FOIA Officer must respond to a FOIA request within five (5) business days after receiving the request.  If more time is needed, the FOIA Officer must notify the requester in writing of the reasons for the extension and when the requested information will be produced.
